Gatchina is a city (since 1796) in Russia, the administrative center of the Leningrad Region (since April 2023) and the Gatchina Municipal District. It is a City of Military Glory of Russia (since April 2015). It is located in the southwestern part of the region, 42 km from the center of St. Petersburg.
The city's historic center, as well as the Gatchina Museum-Reserve located in the city, are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Since April 3, 2023, Gatchina has officially been the administrative center (capital) of the Leningrad Region. Prior to this, since 2021, it served (along with St. Petersburg) as the seat of the region's government.
