MapIn Lagos, you can play beach volleyball year-round on the Algarve's longest beach, Meia Praia.
There are two volleyball courts with all the necessary markings and a standard net.
About the beach
Meia Praia Beach is the largest beach in the Lagos region and is a great place to spend a pleasant day at the beach. A 4.5-kilometer strip of golden sand stretches from Lagos on the west side to the mouth of the Odiaxer River on the east.
Located near the train station, this beach offers accessibility and support for people with disabilities, as well as other support infrastructure, including watersports equipment rentals and a windsurfing school.
Literally translated, "Meia Praia" means "half beach." This does not refer to its size. Meia Praia stretches for approximately 4.5 kilometers and is quite wide, making it the largest beach in the Lagos area.
This is actually one of the longest beaches in the entire Algarve. The beach stretches from the eastern part of Lagos to the Ria de Alvor, forming a large natural bay. The name Meia Praia actually refers to half of the long strip of sand from Lagos to Alvor (which is now divided by the Ribeira de Odiaxere river).
Sand
The sand on the beach is pleasant and very soft. It's pleasant to walk on barefoot. Meia Praia is a very clean beach.
When to Play
In summer, the best time for beach volleyball is from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM; it's usually not windy during this time.
Local players play only on weekends and national holidays. If you want, you can join a game with the locals. They play in groups and pairs, and there are different levels to keep things interesting.

Sea
The sea here is very clear. The Ponta da Piedade rock formations protect Meia Praia from waves from the southwest. Therefore, the sea here is relatively calm. The water is free of rocks, making it perfect for swimming.
But keep in mind that the sea can be very cold, even in summer. The water is very shallow at first, then deepens very slowly. This makes it a good beach for families with small children. Therefore, the beach is popular among Portuguese families, but tourists also come here in the summer.
